The Opportunity
The 5G Wireless System Engineer role involves working collaboratively with researchers, developers, and telecommunications experts to:
- Deploy and maintain small- and large-scale telecom lab environments for testing and development.
- Troubleshoot UE network connection and registration issues using cellular network logs, Wireshark, QXDM, and UE logs.
- Configure and troubleshoot wireless communications systems with RF hardware and software such as spectrum analyzers, Software-Defined Radio, and Wireshark, diagnosing issues in layers 1–3.
- Conduct vulnerability research, generate reports, brief findings, and contribute to designing security solutions for mobile telecommunications systems.
- Apply knowledge of telecommunications networks, next‑generation networking concepts, and protocol analysis to aid in vulnerability and security analysis.
- Consult with team members, clients, and leadership on vulnerability projects using cybersecurity frameworks and methodologies.

Requirements- Experience with virtual machines and containers for deployment or security analysis.
- Experience with DSP, GNU Radio, MATLAB, and Software‑Defined Radio.
- Experience with radio test equipment.
- Knowledge of layers 1–3 telecommunication protocols, architecture, and processes, including air‑interface protocols.
- Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and 4+ years of experience with mobile telecommunications or 8+ years in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with cloud or containerized technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Open Stack, virtualization, or software‑defined networking.
- Experience with SIM provisioning tools such as Gemalto, Smartjac, or pySim.
- Experience with link‑budget analysis.
- Experience rooting or jail breaking phones of any generation.
- Knowledge of programming and scripting languages.
- Ability to review and confirm telecommunication call flows and RF captures via Wireshark or internal network logs for cellular infrastructure.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.

Compensation and BenefitsThe projected compensation range for this position is $77,600.00 to $ (annualized USD). Benefits include health, life, disability, financial, and retirement plans, paid leave, professional development, tuition assistance, work‑life programs, and dependent care. Full‑time and part‑time employees working at least 20 hours a week are eligible to participate in Booz Allen’s benefit programs.
