Salary Range: $120,000 – $160,000 / year (dependent on experience, education, and skill set)
About the RoleSeeking an experienced Database Engineer (Level
2) to provide technical expertise in database design, data flow modeling, and large-scale information retrieval in Fort Meade, MD.
In this role, you will work across the engineering lifecycle—from front-end requirements synthesis through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC). You will design and implement relational and Object-Oriented database structures, develop custom database parsing and loading software, and balance architectural trade-offs regarding data volumes, latency, distribution, retention rules, and security controls across cloud and on-premises environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and deploy relational and Object-Oriented databases that integrate seamlessly into overall enterprise architectures.
Develop custom database parser tools, data ingestion scripts, and automated loading software.
Evaluate and make architectural trade-offs between data volumes, concurrent users, physical/logical distribution, query response times, data retention, and security domains.
Translate complex operational requirements into optimized database schemas, tables, views, and data pipelines.
Author, optimize, and maintain ad-hoc queries, scripts, macros, and master data files.
Support data storage, ODBC connectivity, and information retrieval implementations utilizing modern cloud methodologies.
Formulate short- and long-term requirements for database administration, optimization, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
Required Qualifications & ExperienceSecurity Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a current Polygraph.
Experience & EducationBachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution plus at least 5 years of Database Engineering experience on programs of similar scope and complexity, OR
10 years of relevant Database Engineering experience without a degree (5 additional years substituting for the degree).
Database Design & Development: Proven track record in schema architecture, data modeling, information storage/retrieval, and dataflow optimization.
Software & Scripting: Demonstrated capability developing database parsing/loading software, complex SQL queries, and automated data manipulation scripts.

Experience:
Hands-on experience translating system requirements into database architectures from inception through IOC.
