Portuguese Linguist CAT III

Valiant is seeking skilled CAT III Portuguese Linguists to provide interpretation and translation services in support of ongoing and new U.S. operations and mission requirements.

• Provide foreign language support services, including transcription and translation/interpretation (comprising idiomatic translations of non‑technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to Portuguese or vice versa) in support of military interrogations, intelligence collection, and other operational missions.
• Provide cultural and ethnic context for translations, interpretations, and transcriptions, offering expert linguist’s opinion as to the most likely meaning/intent of terms, phrases, or statements that may have multiple valid interpretations.
• Perform document exploitation, scanning, research, and analysis of foreign language documents and intercepted data for key information; supplement interpretations and translations with industry‑specific knowledge (medicine, science, engineering, legal, etc.) and identify and extract information components meeting military information requirement list criteria and provide input to reports.
• Native proficiency preferred.
• Other duties as assigned.

• U.S. Citizen.
• Minimum 2 years of interpretation/translation experience.
• ILR level 3 in both target language and English; native proficiency preferred.
• Document exploitation skills.
• In‑depth geo‑political knowledge.
• Computer literacy.
• Ability to understand all speech in a standard dialect and follow accurately conversations between educated native speakers, understand radio broadcasts, news stories, oral reports, public addresses on non‑technical subjects.
• Ability to produce idiomatic translations of non‑technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to target language and vice versa.
• Ability to interpret/translate using colloquial and slang words and phrases.
• Ability to conduct consecutive and accurate translations, transcription, and interpretation of ongoing conversations/activities and intelligence activities to/from target language.
• Ability to accurately provide cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations, and advise on cultural and ethnic significance of statements, conversations, situations, documents, etc.
• Ability to accurately perform document exploitation (scan, research, analyze foreign language documents for intelligence information and identify/extract information components meeting mandatory information requirement list criteria).

• Must have at minimum an ACTIVE TOP SECRET security clearance with the ability to obtain SCI.
• Must be able to pass a polygraph and a CI Focus Interview.

• May include lifting, ascending and descending stairs, climbing, extended sitting or standing to various degrees.

$48.65 - $50.30 / hour
