Software Engineer, Backend Developer, Full Stack Developer

Purpose and Impact

Amentum is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team de, MD. In this role you will support mission‑critical projects that directly impact the Nation’s security and intelligence mission.

• Analyze system requirements to develop high‑quality software that meets specified requirements.
• Work independently on moderately complex projects, mentor junior developers, and contribute to technical decisions.
• Deliver projects with a proven track record of success.
• Design and implement features with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate closely with the test team, developers, and stakeholders to understand requirements.
• Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested code and optimize application performance and scalability.
• Participate in code reviews and CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (product, design, QA).
• Use version control (Git).

• Develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems including processing‑intensive analytics, novel algorithms, large data sets, real‑time systems, and business management information systems.
• Review and test software components for adherence to design requirements and document test results.
• Resolve software problem reports.
• Use software development and design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.
• Provide input to system design covering hardware/software trade‑offs, software reuse, COTS/GOTS, and requirements analysis.
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal form.

• Full‑stack development experience, front‑end development proficiency, relational databases (PostgreSQL).
• Java, Spring Boot, Angular or similar.
• Experience with AWS.
• Ownership of features or small projects end‑to‑end.

TS/SCI with polygraph required.

Bachelor’s Degree in computer engineering or related field, or 4 years of Software Engineering experience may be substituted for the degree for a total of 9 years.

5+ years of Software Engineering experience; 2 years of work experience in SIGINT, IA, or IT domains.
