Software Engineer, Backend Developer, Java Developer

• Design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems
• Work closely with other engineers to create client-focused software solutions
• Use modern tools and technologies and stay current with developments in software engineering
• Integrate and use advanced AI coding agents in daily engineering workflows
• Deliver multi-file features, codebase refactoring, and automated unit/integration tests using autonomous agents
• Guide AI agents through complex, multi-repository architectures
• Audit agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment
• Work in a fast-paced small-business environment
• Perform additional duties as assigned

• Must have strong working knowledge and experience developing Java-based software capabilities
• Inquisitive nature, responsiveness, and excellent testing skills
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines
• Proven track record integrating advanced AI agents, specifically Claude Code or Google's Antigravity / Gemini agentic workflows, into daily software engineering routines
• Experience using autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementations, complex codebase refactoring, and automated unit/integration test generation
• Ability to guide AI agents through complex, multi-repository architectures and critically audit agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment
• Must currently have and maintain an active TS/SCI-level U.S. Government Security Clearance
• U.S. Citizenship required
• At least 5 years of Software Engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries and a bachelor's degree in a related field; or 3 years of relevant experience with a master's degree in a related field; or a high school diploma or equivalent and 9 years of relevant experience
• Experience designing enterprise APIs
• Experience with RESTful web services
• Experience with microservices architecture
• Experience with object-oriented programming paradigms
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven
• Comfortable working on a Linux command line
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently and in a team setting
• Problem-solving skills and ability to review information and compile data appropriately
• Ability to work onsite at customer facilities in Fort Meade, Maryland, at least 1 day per week and at company headquarters in Columbia, Maryland, at least 1 day per week
• Flexibility for increased onsite frequency based on customer mission requirements and operational needs
• Preferred: experience with AWS or Azure

• Preferred: scripting experience
• Preferred: prior experience or familiarity with Data Lakes/Warehouses, specifically BDP or JCRS-D
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and standard software development tool suites such as JIRA, Confluence, and Git Hub Enterprise
