Salary Range: $159,000 – $190,000 / year (dependent on experience, education, and skill set)
About the RoleSeeking a dedicated Web Developer / Software Engineer (Level
1) to serve as a core engineer on a high-performing team delivering enterprise web services deployed in AWS in Fort Meade, MD.
In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of software features across the stack—spanning user interfaces, APIs, and backend data layers. You will design, develop, deploy, and maintain scalable cloud-hosted applications, contribute to architectural and security design decisions, conduct rigorous code reviews, and drive root-cause resolutions to ensure high availability, security, and maintainability across production environments.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and maintain full-stack web applications and enterprise services (UI, API, and database layers) within an Agile framework.
- Deploy, monitor, and support production services in AWS; troubleshoot operational incidents and implement root-cause remediations.
- Author clear technical approach documentation, architectural proposals, and interface designs.
- Participate actively in technical estimation, sprint planning, and peer code reviews.
- Integrate secure authentication/authorization workflows and apply secure coding principles across all software components.
- Configure, optimize, and operate software deployments within Linux operating environments.
- Design and optimize relational database schemas, indexes, and SQL queries for reliable performance.
Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a current Polygraph.
Cybersecurity Certification: Minimum DoD 8570 / 8140 IAM Level I certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CAP, GSLC).
Experience &
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited institution plus at least 7 years of software engineering experience on programs of similar scope and complexity, OR
11 years of relevant software engineering experience without a degree (4 additional years substituting for the degree).
Technical StackDemonstrated professional software development experience with one or more of the following:
- Web Fundamentals: HTML5, CSS3, and RESTful API design.
- Linux & Infrastructure:
Experience deploying and operating software on Linux (service management, log analysis, networking, basic shell automation). - Databases:
Working knowledge of relational database management, indexing, and practical query tuning.
- Hands-on experience with core AWS services (IAM, EC2, ALB, S3, RDS, Cloud Watch) or Azure equivalents.
- Experience configuring, securing, and performance-tuning web and application servers (Nginx, Apache, Tomcat).
- Scripting and automation proficiency using Python or Power Shell within automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Background participating in on-call rotations and production incident response.
