Transmission Line Engineer III

As a Transmission Line Engineer III, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of high-voltage transmission lines to ensure reliable and efficient power delivery. This role requires expertise in transmission line design software such as PLS-CADD, along with strong engineering knowledge and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transmission Line Design:
Develop detailed designs for high-voltage transmission lines using PLS-CADD, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
  • Engineering Analysis:
Utilize PLS-CADD and other tools to perform engineering analyses, simulate line performance under various conditions, and optimize designs for efficiency and reliability.
  • Technical Specifications:
Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for transmission line components and construction methods, adhering to standards and regulations.
  • Project Management:
Coordinate with project managers, clients, and teams to plan and execute transmission line projects, including cost estimation, scheduling, procurement, and quality control.
  • Field Support:
Provide technical support during construction, testing, and commissioning of transmission lines, resolving design issues and ensuring project success.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
Stay updated with industry regulations, codes, and standards related to transmission line design and operation, ensuring projects meet legal and safety requirements.
  • Collaboration:

Work with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, structural engineers, and project managers to integrate transmission line designs into overall power system projects.
  • Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed about new technologies and best practices, participate in research and development efforts, and contribute to enhancing transmission line infrastructure.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on power systems or related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility is preferred but not essential as long as you have completed either the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in transmission line design, analysis, and project management, preferably in the utility or consulting industry.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools such as PLS-CADD (Power Line Systems - Computer Aided Design and Drafting), which is a must-have for this role.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and structural engineering principles, transmission line design standards (e.g., IEEE, ANSI), and industry best practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with internal teams, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet project deadlines.

Transmission Line Engineers typically work in office environments using computer-aided design (CAD) software, simulation tools, and project management software. The preferred work schedule is 4 days in the office, with 3 days available for the right profile to work remotely, subject to project needs and approval.

With experience and additional qualifications, Transmission Line Engineers can progress to senior-level roles such as Lead Engineer, Project Manager, or Engineering Manager within the power utility, engineering consulting, or renewable energy sectors. Continued professional development and staying updated with industry trends are key to advancing in this career path.
