The AVP – Database Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, upgrading, and performance of critical database systems to ensure high availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a hands‑on position requiring solid technical skills with advanced expertise in SQL Server performance, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills for production support of financial applications using MSSQL 2005‑2025.

Responsibilities
  • Design, install, configure, secure, and maintain highly available enterprise database systems
  • Monitor backup jobs on all enterprise databases and perform routine disaster recovery scenarios
  • Participate in on‑call after‑hours support rotation, responding to calls after hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Establish and maintain database policies and standards
  • Generate database schema definitions and modifications as required
  • Plan and coordinate data refreshes from one environment to another
  • Monitor database system details, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements
  • Monitor, optimize, and allocate physical data storage for database systems
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for database modifications
  • Create or support creation of required reports in response to business user needs
  • Perform database transaction and security audits
  • Follow and maintain in‑house documentation for repeatable processes, including feature installation, disaster recovery, and common problem resolution
  • Establish appropriate end‑user database access control levels
  • Develop routines for end users to facilitate best‑practice database use
  • Apply ITIL practices for Change Management
Requirements
  • 7+ years direct experience managing and supporting Microsoft SQL Server (2000‑2025)
  • 7+ years experience in database performance, tuning, and optimization
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or 5+ years’ equivalent work experience with SQL Server administration and/or development
  • 7+ years hands‑on experience with database security, auditing, backup/restore, DR, and high availability
  • 7+ years experience with DTS and SSIS packages
Core Competencies

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards, and products as required
  • Ability to present ideas in user‑friendly language
Preferences
  • Excellent knowledge of system views and stored procedures using T‑SQL
  • Experience with data partitioning, indexing best practices, resource governor, and extended events
  • Experience in installation and configuration of SQL Server in virtualized environments
  • Experience with Power Shell
  • Experience with Solar Winds Monitoring and DPA (Ignite)
  • Experience in financial services
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Knowledge of Incident/Problem Management and familiarity with ITIL processes in a critical production environment
