Job Description

This contract-to-hire Cable Technician role offers a hands-on entry into the telecommunications and technology industry, supporting structured cabling and low-voltage projects across a variety of commercial environments in the Rock Hill, SC area. You will work as part of a team to pull, terminate, and test CAT6 cabling while developing your skills and building a long-term career path in a growing field.

Responsibilities

+ Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems, with a primary focus on CAT6 cabling.

+ Support copper and fibre optic cabling installations across a range of commercial sites.

+ Perform IDF and MDF closet builds, including rack and stack activities and effective cable management.

+ Assist with low-voltage infrastructure projects in environments such as schools, hospitals, office spaces, data centres, and other commercial facilities.

+ Work safely on ladders, scissor lifts, and construction sites, following all relevant safety standards and procedures.

+ Use basic hand tools to complete installation and termination tasks in construction and commercial settings.

+ Provide professional customer service and communicate clearly and respectfully with team members and clients.

+ Travel between job sites, sometimes up to an hour away, ensuring punctuality and reliability.

+ Collaborate with experienced technicians to deliver high-quality cabling installations and support project completion.

+ Maintain organised work areas, label cabling accurately, and contribute to overall site cleanliness and order.

Essential Skills

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ Ability to install, pull, terminate, and test CAT6 cabling in commercial environments.

+ Basic understanding of structured cabling and low-voltage systems, or experience in telecommunications or related construction fields (preferred but not required).

+ Ability to support copper cabling installations and assist with fibre optic work.

+ Capability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working at height on ladders and scissor lifts.

+ Comfort working in construction and commercial environments, including active job sites.

+ Strong work ethic, reliability, and a demonstrated willingness to learn new skills.

+ Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation, with the ability to commute up to an hour between sites.

+ Authorisation to work in the United States.

+ Ownership and confident use of basic hand tools required for cabling and low-voltage work.

+ Effective verbal communication skills and professional customer service approach when dealing with colleagues and clients.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Previous experience in structured cabling, low voltage, telecommunications, or a related construction trade.

+

Experience with fibre optic cabling, including installation and basic troubleshooting, is a strong plus.

+ Backgrd as a helper or apprentice in a trade environment, particularly electrical or low-voltage work.

+ Familiarity with Cat5 and Cat6 cabling standards and best practices.

+ Exposure to data centre environments and commercial infrastructure projects.

+ Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented setting and follow direction from lead technicians.

+ Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when labelling, routing, and testing cabling.
