Description

The primary purpose of the ER Unit Coordinator position is to assist the Registered Nurse and Physician with various duties in the daily operations of the Emergency Room, assist in patient care, and to assist in the overall efficient operation of the nursing unit. Most important of these functions are reception, transcription, data entry, record retrieval, and other duties assigned by the nursing staff as appropriate to current licensure, certification or education.

Performs various duties related to the Emergency Department in accordance with established Hospital Policies and Procedures. The ER Unit Coordinator has the responsibility of reporting any unusual occurrences, changes in cardiac rhythm, patient and/or employee issues, work related accidents to the Registered Nurses who are responsible for the delivery of patient care. Strives daily to give all customers very good care and promotes Valley View Medical Centers’ Standards of Behavior and other duties as assigned.

The following is a list of nursing duties which are appropriate to designate/assign to the ER Unit Coordinator:

  • Answer call lights
  • Make clean beds
  • Help with meal trays
  • Fill water pitchers
  • Assist in transport of patients
  • 1:1 monitoring of patients
  • Transport cardiac patient to TELE
  • New I & O Sheets/End of Shift, Chart I & O
  • This is not a complete list and the position is not limited to these duties.
Responsibilities Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
:

Degree / Licensure / Certification / Registration
:
High School Diploma/GED, current BLS certification required. Completed Competency Based Skills Checklists for units assigned. EKG and Tele class/certification required. IV & Phlebotomy certification, C.N.A. and/or EMT Certification preferred.

Experience Required
:
One (1) year experience is desired.

Special Skills & Qualifications
:

Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment. Must possess the ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time and lift heavy objects; assist patients to and from bed/wheelchair/gurney;

and to perform the essential duties of the position. Must possess the ability to use the following equipment:
Telephone / Overhead Paging System / Fax Machine / Calculator / Computer / Wheelchair / Gurney / Hospital Beds. Must be able to work any scheduled shifts. Must be willing to periodic overtime and be prepared to take call as requested. Completed Competency Based Skills Checklists for unit(s) assigned.
