Position SummaryA Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, operates imaging equipment, and works closely with physicians to diagnose and treat diseases. This role combines technical expertise with patient care and safety practices.
Key Responsibilities- Interview and screen patients prior to procedures.
- Explain test procedures and ensure informed consent.
- Position patients correctly for scans.
- Prepare and administer radioactive drugs.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions.
- Adhere to safety protocols for storage and disposal.
- Operate gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, and related equipment.
- Capture diagnostic images as ordered by a physician.
- Calibrate and maintain imaging equipment.
- Process and analyze scan data.
- Prepare detailed diagnostic reports for physician interpretation.
- Maintain accurate patient and procedure records.
- Follow radiation safety procedures and monitor exposure levels.
- Comply with state, federal, and institutional regulations.
- Participate in quality assurance and control programs.
- Work with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare providers.
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating imaging procedures.
- Train and supervise student technologists or new staff.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field.
- Certification: ARRT (Nuclear Medicine – NM) or NMTCB.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and radiopharmaceuticals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
