Position LocationOn‑campus position located in Fort Morgan, CO.
Purpose / Summary of JobThe Staff Accountant is responsible for the oversight of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions of the College by providing training and administrative leadership to each of these functional areas as needed. The role supports the Controller by recording, analyzing, reconciling, and maintaining all financial records, including grant monitoring and reporting as well as financial statement preparation. The position also performs advanced accounting functions, researches errors, and resolves complex problems.
It works with college personnel and external parties on new projects, establishes processes and procedures, and maintains internal controls in compliance with GAAP, CCCS, and State policies. The Staff Accountant promotes inclusion, values diversity, and demonstrates the college’s commitment to its guiding principles.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and professional accounting experience.
- At least two years of progressively responsible professional accounting or auditing experience.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Experience interpreting and implementing policies and procedures.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize duties with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in the MS Office suite, and the ability to learn other software as required.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong time‑management and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff, students, and external agencies.
- Ability to work occasional long and irregular hours as needed for college events, special projects, compliance deadlines, and committee service.
- Ability to travel occasionally for conferences, training, and additional duties.
- Master’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Prior work in higher‑education accounting or State of Colorado or local government.
- Grant accounting experience.
- Experience with Banner system.
- Experience with CORE system.

Salary and BenefitsSalary ranges from $57,000 to $64,000 based on education, skills and experience. Candidates with a Master’s degree may receive an additional $3,300 base increase. Benefits include health, life, dental, and vision insurance; LTD and other benefits in accordance with Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System policies. No relocation assistance is provided.
