Fischer Land Surveying & Engineering of Langdon, ND is seeking a Civil Engineer (PE) to join our company. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in civil or construction engineering. We primarily serve NE ND and NW MN but also have done work across the state of ND. We have grown our client base and projects over 28 years, striving to provide accurate and quality services.
As a small company, every employee plays an important role. We design open channel drains and have helped create 30 assessment drains in northeastern ND. Working for a small firm allows you to take a project from conception to construction. In addition, we handle other engineering projects such as site design and layout for convenience stores, agricultural facilities and commercial buildings.
Full‑time, Monday through Friday. Wage depends on experience.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Manage small to mid‑size projects, client and contractor agreements, and budgets.
- Write and prepare technical engineering reports, plans, and specifications for construction projects.
- Assist in field operations as needed (construction inspection, survey, and other field engineering). Oversee construction activities and compliance with construction documents.
- Consult with clients and contractors to plan and develop strategies for their civil engineering design and support needs; provide general oversight with contractors and subcontractors.
- Gather field survey data to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, contours, etc., using conventional surveying and GPS methods. Prepare accurate field notes, drawings, and record changes in conditions while in field.
- Ensure schedules and productivity objectives are achieved.
- Candidate may be required to help with land surveying as needed. Training will be provided.
- Ensure work vehicle is supplied with stakes, flagging, lath, etc.
- Track oil changes or routine maintenance due on survey vehicle or UTV in advance so they can be scheduled for maintenance on time.

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Construction Engineering with coursework in hydrology/hydraulics/soil mechanics/construction and business. Individual must hold a PE license. Ideal candidate has experience in municipal/buildings and highway design.
- Excellent computer and strong technical skills, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
- Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated with the ability to think independently, and strong listening, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to speak and write English clearly.
- High level of initiative and ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with clear expectations and timeliness.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to provide a drug test if requested.
- Capable of indoor and outdoor work, lifting 50–75 lb, performing manual field labor tasks such as clearing vegetation, driving rebar/lathe for staking, walking on uneven terrain, and standing or walking for long periods.
