Murdoch’s hires team members who are willing and excited to go the extra step. The Receiving Specialist plays a critical role in the success of all store departments by efficiently processing freight and enabling them to make it available to our customers. This includes freight coming into the store as well as anything being shipped out of the store via various freight carriers such as UPS, Fed Ex, USPS, and by truck.
They perform their job with a critical emphasis on detail, quality control, and inventory accuracy management.

- Organize and maintain the receiving area and backroom.
- Create and maintain a safe environment.
- Process freight in an accurate and timely manner.
- Transfer merchandise between stores and distribution centers.
- Manage product returns, recalls, and defectives.
- Receive and notify customers of special orders.
- Communicate effectively and create positive working relationships with the Purchasing and Finance departments, team members, vendors, and service providers.
- Exhibit proper radio and phone etiquette.
- Work with the Assistant Store Manager to develop and achieve goals.
- Other duties as needed throughout the store.
- Be at least 18 years old or older to operate a forklift.
- Be able to train on and safely operate a forklift, pallet jack, and box crusher/baler.
- Demonstrate strong communication (written, oral, and interpersonal) skills.
- Have strong organizational skills.
- Exhibit a positive attitude and a demonstrated practice of learning.
- Excel in a fast‑paced, evolving work environment.
- Be familiar with standard concepts and practices within the retail environment.
- Have proficient Windows‑based computer skills – especially with Microsoft products.
- Stand for a long period of time.
- Heavy and repetitive lifting (up to 50lbs).
- Bending, carrying, and pushing.
Working on a ladder. - Repetitive wrist movements on keyboard.
- Close vision for computer work.
