Job Description

The Bus Driver for Morgan County School District Re-3 is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students to and from school, activities, and district-sponsored events. This position operates district vehicles in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations while maintaining a safe and positive environment for student passengers.

The Bus Driver monitors student behavior, conducts required vehicle inspections, maintains transportation records, and communicates effectively with students, families, school staff, and transportation personnel to support safe and reliable transportation services throughout the district.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely transport students to and from school, activities, field trips, and district-sponsored events in accordance with established routes, schedules, and transportation regulations;
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive environment on the bus by monitoring student behavior, addressing concerns appropriately, and enforcing district transportation expectations;
  • Assist students with loading and unloading the bus, including supporting students with disabilities and ensuring the proper use of lifts, seat belts, safety vests, and other restraint systems;
  • Monitor students for health, safety, and welfare concerns and report incidents, injuries, suspected abuse, bullying, harassment, or emergencies in accordance with district procedures;
  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; identify and report maintenance concerns and ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and safe for operation;
  • Operate district vehicles in compliance with all federal, state, and district transportation laws, regulations, and safety requirements;
  • Communicate effectively with transportation staff, school personnel, students, and families regarding route information, student concerns, emergencies, and transportation needs;
  • Utilize two-way radio and other communication systems to report routine, urgent, and emergency situations;
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including route information, mileage reports, seating charts, student counts, vehicle logs, incident reports, and field trip documentation;
  • Assist with route verification, mapping updates, and transportation data collection as required;
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, in-services, and certifications, including first aid, CPR, and state-mandated transportation training;
  • Participate in annual vehicle cleaning and routine transportation department activities;
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Transportation Department and the mission of Morgan County School District Re-3.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • No experience required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, FORMAL TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in School Bus Transportation is preferred;
  • Demonstrated biliteracy in Spanish and English, including the ability to read, write, and communicate professionally in both languages, is preferred.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATION
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license;
  • Must meet District driver insurability requirements;
  • A copy of an individual Motor Vehicle Record must be submitted at the time of application;
  • Successful Completion of a Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). required for hire;
  • Successful completion of the District Driver Training Program is required for hire;
  • Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with Class B P2S endorsement required;
  • Must meet Colorado Department of Education and FMCSR Part 382 requirements;
  • CPR and First Aid certifications within three (3) months after entering the position.
