Preferred Materials is seeking a skilled CDL Grading Equipment Operator to join our Asphalt & Construction team. In this role, you’ll operate heavy machinery—including graders, dozers, rollers, loaders, and excavators—to prepare and grade surfaces for construction projects. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our job sites meet project specifications while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
This position involves hands‑on, physical work in outdoor environments and requires the ability to perform essential tasks in varying weather conditions.
What You’ll DoOperate heavy equipment (loaders, rollers, excavators, dozers, graders) to move earth, excavate, and grade surfaces.
Cut grades, slopes, and ditches according to project specifications.
Perform routine equipment maintenance, minor servicing, and cleaning.
Coordinate machine movements with crew members using hand or audio signals.
Identify underground utilities before beginning work.
Monitor operations to ensure compliance with safety standards and avoid hazards.
Track equipment usage, materials, and any issues encountered.
Maintain proper PPE and follow OSHA/MSHA regulations.
Use a computer or tablet for timesheet entry and plan reading.
QualificationsHigh school diploma, GED, or higher
Preferred: 2+ years of heavy equipment operation experience
Preferred: Valid CDL with tanker endorsement (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
Strong communication skills and ability to work well with crew and foreman
Demonstrated commitment to safety
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
