Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, responsible for the inspection of public works projects, to include roadway, utility and sidewalk to ensure compliance with City regulations and with approved plans and specifications. When necessary, this position will also be required to complete utility locates. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Plans, coordinates, and monitors construction projects, to include roads, sidewalks, drainage structures, water, sewer, and reuse facilities and in-house projects.
  • Interprets construction plans, specifications and contract documents.
  • Hand deliver notices, answer questions and alleviate concerns of the general public.
  • Maintain written record of work completed by contractors, including any problems encountered.
  • Work with General Contractor coordinating water tie-ins, shut downs; pressure testing, and/or FDEP testing.
  • Review change orders and requests for payment.
  • Survey capital improvement projects and private construction projects.
  • Inspect private construction projects, including new developments.
  • Complete utility locates
  • Must participate in on-call duty.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation

Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice. Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledgeable in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of construction plans and specifications.
  • Skill in time management and organization
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Ability to effectively operate necessary equipment, including but not limited to a personal computer and applicable software, calculator, copier, and facsimile machine.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience in Public Works inspection, utility/road construction or related work; experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
