The Underground Utilities Estimator is a full time, on site position based in Fort Myers, FL, responsible for preparing accurate estimates for underground utility projects, including water, sewer, storm drainage, and related infrastructure work. Day to day tasks include reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing site conditions, and developing detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. The role also involves soliciting and reviewing vendor and subcontractor quotes, coordinating with project managers and field teams to clarify scope, and assisting with bid preparation and proposal documents.
The estimator tracks historical cost data, updates pricing and production rates, and supports value engineering to improve project competitiveness and profitability. Regular communication with internal stakeholders and external partners is expected to ensure timely, complete, and compliant bid submissions.
- Estimation and construction management skills, including experience preparing detailed cost estimates, performing quantity takeoffs, and interpreting civil/site work drawings and specifications.
- Technical knowledge of underground utilities, such as water, sewer, storm drainage systems, trenching, bedding, back filling, and related materials and installation methods.
- Proficiency with relevant software tools, such as estimating software, spreadsheets, and project management applications; familiarity with digital plan takeoff tools is beneficial.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem solving skills, with the ability to compare bids, evaluate alternatives, and support value engineering and cost control decisions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with project managers, field supervisors, vendors, and subcontractors, including clear written proposals and organized documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable construction codes, safety standards, and industry best practices related to underground utility installation.
- Prior experience as an estimator or in a similar role within civil construction, underground utilities, or site development; field experience is a strong plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering,
