Job Summary
Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service. Teaching assignments may be on the main campus or at off‑campus sites within our region. Additional duties may be assigned by supervisor.
Job Description
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Plan and teach assigned course(s).
- Attend course orientation and faculty meetings, as required.
- Provide primary instruction and evaluate students against department and accreditation standards.
- Prepare syllabi, instruction materials; coordinate lectures and tests.
- Provide professional mentoring to students.
- Contribute to course and/or curriculum development.
- Function as an effective, active, and collegial team member.
Other duties:
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s in Counseling.
- At least two years of experience in the field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching courses in Mental Health Counseling, including practicum and internship.
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida.
- Experience in teaching at the university or graduate level, supervision experience, and experience in the counseling profession.
- Doctorate in Counseling.
- Graduates from CACREP accredited programs given preference.
- Experience with online learning management systems like Canvas or Blackboard, and instruction/supervision experiences that use active learning in online and face‑to‑face classrooms preferred.
- Licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

- Possess knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manuals related to the job tasks.
- Demonstrate the ability to respond to supervision, guidance, and direction in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies.
- Provide quality customer service by creating a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Present a professional image in word, action, and attire.
- Apply effective techniques to create working relationships with others to achieve common goals; successfully communicate and collaborate with others to achieve goals.
- Demonstrate skills necessary to look at situations and processes critically to make recommendations for improvement.
