Job Summary

The Engineering Intern will support the planning, design, and construction of utility infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to real‑world civil engineering projects while working under the supervision of licensed professional engineers and project managers in both office and field settings.

Your Responsibilities as an Engineering Intern
  • Assist project managers and engineers with utility infrastructure projects by supporting project coordination, schedule tracking, and basic budget‑related tasks.
  • Perform designs on engineering projects under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Assist with permit preparation by organizing application materials and tracking permit review status.
  • Participate in construction observations and field visits under supervision; assist with field notes, photographs, and documentation.
  • Support communication and coordination efforts with construction managers, contractors, inspectors, owners, and permitting agencies as part of the project team.
  • Prepare or assist with technical documents such as reports, calculations, project summaries, and professional correspondence.
  • Gain exposure to water and wastewater pipeline design, pump stations, hydraulic modeling, and/or treatment plant projects.
  • Work in office and field environments as required to support project needs.
What we’re looking for
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Preferring students targeting December 2026 graduation.
  • Can work a minimum of 16 hours per week on average during the fall semester out of the Fort Myers office.
  • Previous internship or coursework related to civil or utility engineering desired.
  • Interest in water, wastewater, or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • AutoCAD, GIS experience desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability and willingness to interact professionally with team members, clients, and regulatory agencies under guidance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, as limited travel to project sites may be required.
