Step into a leadership role that shapes the infrastructure of Lee County. As a Department of Transportation Engineer, you'll guide a team of engineers and technicians while overseeing high-impact programs that keep our bridges, stormwater systems, and transportation network running safely and efficiently. This is a pivotal role where your technical expertise and decision-making will drive major maintenance initiatives, support capital projects, and strengthen countywide operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Program Leadership: Oversee key engineering programs, including bridge inspections, stormwater pipe lining, and toll bridge major maintenance.
  • Team Supervision: Lead and develop engineering and technical staff, providing guidance on technical and policy matters.
  • Plan & Permit Review: Review CIP plans, evaluate easement vacation requests, and approve overweight/over-limit permits.
  • Contract Management: Prepare bid documents and manage outsourced contracted work for DOT-OPS projects.
  • Technical Support: Provide engineering expertise across DOT-OPS divisions and coordinate with consultants, contractors, and agencies.
  • Grant Administration: Manage grants and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Emergency Response: Serve as essential staff during county emergencies and support rapid response activities.
  • Operational Improvement: Contribute to long-term planning and implement industry best practices to enhance department performance.
Education, Experience, Licensing

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Experience: 2 years of engineering or closely related experience
  • Licensing: Professional Engineer (PE) license

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with a focus on team development
  • Expertise in infrastructure inspection, maintenance, and program management
  • Ability to make independent, technically sound decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
