About the Role

As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in preparing and analyzing complex financial information for the Lee County Board of County Commissioners
, the Lee County Port Authority
, and the Lee County Clerk of Courts
. This position requires advanced technical skill, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

You’ll take ownership of major components of the County’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), support external audits, implement new accounting standards, and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and County regulations. Your work will directly support transparency, accountability, and financial stewardship across multiple government entities.

What You’ll Do
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • Prepare fund financial statements and supporting schedules for the ACFR.
    • Develop entity-wide statements, governmental fund statements, reconciliations, proprietary and fiduciary fund statements, and combining schedules.
    • Draft footnotes, Required Supplemental Information, statistical sections, and supplemental schedules.
    • Prepare confirmation letters and coordinate with external auditors.
    • Assist with Port Authority standalone statements and Clerk of Courts special-purpose statements.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilities
    • Maintain grant activity and prepare Single Audit Reports.
    • Complete the Annual Financial Report (State Report) and other mandated State and debt-related filings.
    • Prepare and file IRS and State tax forms.
    • Implement new or revised accounting pronouncements and ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Operational & Technical Duties
    • Maintain capital asset roll forwards and CIP schedules.
    • Verify lease and subscription-based IT arrangement (SBITA) transactions and prepare related entries.
    • Review bank reconciliations and participate in the Clerk’s annual budget process.
    • Support the County’s debt issuance process, including reviewing bond documents and preparing journal entries.
    • Monitor assigned funds monthly, reconcile balances, analyze activity, and prepare projections.
    • Review, approve, and post journal entries, interfaces, and payroll batches.
    • Assist with internal control testing and implementation.
    • Participate in system upgrades and software testing.
    • Serve as a mentor to Staff Accountants and provide technical guidance.

  • Bachelor's Degree with a major or concentration in Accounting or Finance coupled with six (6) years of progressively responsible accounting and financial reporting experience
    • OR ten (10) years of high-level progressively responsible accounting and financial accounting work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position
