Working Title:
REGISTERED NURSE SPECIALIST -
This full‑time specialized Registered Nurse position is to function as the medical expert for protective investigations, protective supervision and protective intervention programs, both as a team member and independently. The position requires a legally and professionally qualified Registered Nurse with appropriate experience, education, and licensing. Work is performed under the supervision of the Program Administrator.
Responsibilities- Review and interpret medical records to assist protective investigation and supervision staff with medical decisions regarding investigations of adult abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- Provide professional nursing diagnoses for vulnerable adults who are victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- Provide expert opinions and recommendations for the prevention of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Prepare written reports of nursing opinions and medical documentation in accordance with current operating procedures and policies.
- Serve as the district adult death review coordinator to ensure compliance with program standards and procedures.
- Coordinate the multidisciplinary Adult Protection Team in protection, prevention, and implementation of treatment for vulnerable adults.
- Conduct or arrange pre‑service and in‑service training of ASP staff on medical aspects of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable adults.
- Provide professional, medical training to the public and private sector regarding abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- Travel as necessary in relation to the above duties.
- Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques, and human anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of indicators and evidence of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of aged and disabled adults.
- Knowledge of Chapter 415, Florida Statutes, Chapter 10A‑7, Florida Administrative Rule, and other related policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of medications prescribed for aged persons and disabled adults.
- Ability to participate in detection, prevention, protection, and planning of treatment for victims, and to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to establish effective working relationships.
Must hold a valid, unrestricted Florida driver’s license, have access to a private automobile, and maintain current vehicle insurance.
