PACU/RN About the roleThis is a full time role based out of our Ft. Myers clinic.
- Review patient charts for health history and to ensure that the necessary pre-operative evaluations have been completed. Ensure permission for surgery has been given.
- Prepare for the arrival of patients to the surgery center by making sure that proper supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly.
- Complete an assessment of the patient, start IV, and administer necessary medications as ordered.
- Assist CRNA before, during, and after induction of anesthesia and with the administration of medications.
- Monitor sterile and aseptic techniques in all areas of the perioperative process.
- Monitors that Universal Precautions are maintained.
- Communicates appropriate information to all team members concerning patient care throughout the perioperative stay.
- Safely carries out physician’s orders; accurately and promptly, documenting all activities.
- Keeps surgery center manager apprised of unusual occurrences, room activity, personnel performance/behavior, physician interaction, and patient condition and equipment problems.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to crises, during the perioperative phase, seeking assistance as needed.
- Observe all safety precautions and comply with all health and safety rules and procedures of the facility.
- Receives patient into the recovery room after surgery. Assesses and evaluates the patient. Monitors the patient continuously during their recovery phase. Documents the status of the patients and administers care accordingly.
- Is prepared for emergencies by knowing the correct procedures and locations of the emergency crash cart.
- Provides discharge instructions to the patient and their caregiver, asking for confirmation of understanding throughout the giving of instructions.
- Provide a follow-up assessment for the patient by calling the patient post-surgery.
- Will complete all necessary documentation on Recovery Room nurses’ record.
- Participates in quality improvement monitoring and keeps track of daily logs.
- Complies with cost containment practices.
- Participates and attends in-service programs, and staff meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program
- Current R.N. License
- Current BLS Certification
- ACLS Certification
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected or normal vision and hearing to normal range. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, blood or body fluids.
