Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) — Emergency Shelter / Hurricane Response (PRN)
Location: North Fort Myers, FL (Southwest Florida)
Job Type: PRN / Temporary – Storm Activation
Shifts: 12‑hour shifts, days/nights; up to 24/7 coverage during activations
Pay: $30 – $40 per hour + activation/deployment pay; meals and lodging provided during deployment if deployed more than 50 miles from your registered address
About the RoleEssential Health Care Solutions LLC is building a roster of Florida‑certified Nursing Assistants to provide hands‑on support care at employee shelters during hurricane and severe‑weather events in Southwest Florida. Working under the supervision of a licensed nurse, our CNAs help care for the crews and emergency personnel working to keep the power on — supporting comfort, basic needs, and a safe, clean shelter environment.
This is on‑call, activation‑based work ideal for CNAs who want meaningful disaster‑response experience and flexible, well‑compensated deployments. Assignments typically run 24 hours to 14 consecutive days.
- Provide basic support care to shelter occupants under the supervision of a licensed nurse
- Measure and record vital signs as directed by the nurse
- Assist occupants with comfort, hydration, mobility, and daily needs
- Observe occupants and promptly report any changes in condition to the supervising nurse
- Support infection‑prevention tasks – hygiene, PPE, and surface cleaning/disinfection
- Help set up, organize, and maintain the shelter medical station and supply inventory
- Assist the nursing team during medical incidents within the CNA scope of practice
- Maintain basic logs and records as directed
- Help keep the medical and shelter areas safe, clean, and orderly
- Active, unencumbered Florida CNA certification —
required - Current BLS certification – required
- Ability to pass a background screening
- Availability to deploy on short notice and work extended 12‑hour shifts in shelter/field conditions
- Dependable team player comfortable taking direction from licensed nurses in a fast‑paced environment
- Preferred: hospital, long‑term care, shelter, or disaster‑response experience; IC/FEMA training
This is activation‑based work. Deployments are triggered by storm events (up to 72 hours before landfall, through impact, and into recovery). You will work 12‑hour shifts – including nights, weekends, and holidays – for up to 14 consecutive days per deployment, in shelter and temporary‑facility settings. Meals and lodging are provided during deployment, and PPE is supplied.
