Responsibilities

  • Quality control for Ajax projects; manages a team of QC Field Technicians to ensure proper documentation, reporting, and good paving practices.
  • Manages entries into the FDOT’s Materials Acceptance Certification (MAC) System.
  • Collaborates with Ajax’s construction teams in Venice and Fort Myers regarding Quality Control needs and scheduling.
  • Attends internal scheduling meetings, pre-construction meetings, and project progress meetings as necessary; performs other tasks as assigned.
Reporting Relationships
  • The QC Manager reports directly to the Director of Quality Control.
Requirements
  • EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited engineering program, and/or have the appropriate FDOT certifications.
  • SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Direct, manage, and train personnel; responsible for all aspects of Quality Control at eight regional asphalt production facilities and asphalt paving crews.
  • Computer use:
    Outlook, Viewpoint, Agg. QC Software, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Familiar with Asphalt and Aggregate/Soil Laboratory Testing.
  • Plans / Specification reading.
  • Performance Measurement Analysis.
  • Asphalt manufacturing.
  • Negotiating skills;
    Estimating functions.
  • Facilitating skills;
    Hiring practices;
    Conflict practices.
  • TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The essential functions include sitting, standing, climbing, reaching, bending, twisting, trunk movements, lifting a minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, low-level work, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing, and talking.
Typical Working Conditions
  • Asphalt field operation, asphalt plants, lab, and office environment. Ability to work days, nights, and weekends as required.
Responsibilities (continued)
  • Develop and implement quality control programs to meet project specifications in accordance with the Florida Department of Transportation or other project-specific specifications.
  • As required by project specifications, supervise quality assurance and quality control testing; supervise field quality control technicians.
  • Work with adjoining departments on assignments; ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Lab record keeping; maintain the company’s quality standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of costing information for budgetary purposes; economical purchase of parts and equipment.
  • Supervision of sublet repairs (obtain competitive bids, ensure the work is completed correctly, in a timely manner, and within budget).
  • Operate within budget; recommend required equipment and parts purchases; keep the Director of Quality Control informed of problems affecting field and/or lab operations.

  • The Quality Control Manager is empowered to make decisions necessary to accomplish all tasks listed in, but not limited to, this job description.
Safety and Environmental
  • Enforce and abide by all rules listed in the Ajax employee handbook.
  • Ensure all Ajax quality standards are met; adhere to federal, state, local and Ajax safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Safety Training;
    First Aid – CPR.
