Position Details

Student Lab Technician

Academic Year:

Work Hours:

20 hours per week, varying depending on lab schedules. Occasional Saturday responsibilities.

Position Summary

The Student Lab Technician works in a basic science research laboratory, operating lab equipment, performing experimental procedures, and collecting and summarizing research data. Responsibilities include assisting or conducting a variety of scientific experiments and research projects of limited complexity, collecting, evaluating, and interpreting data for clinical and diagnostic research. The Student Lab Technician reports to a professor.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in conducting a variety of scientific experiments and research projects of high complexity, collecting, evaluating, and interpreting data.
  • Assists investigator or higher level technician with research studies, experiments, and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions, and set‑up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs database queries of historical data and organization of data into spreadsheets for use in research studies.
  • Works with other Research Assistants and maintains an orderly and efficient research environment.
  • Assists in the inventory of all reagents, supplies, and other materials in the research area.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

UIW students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a health, basic science, or related field.
