Business Development Representative
Seeking an experienced Business Development Representative to support referral development, admissions growth, community outreach, and census goals within a behavioral health treatment environment. This role is ideal for a highly motivated sales professional with direct experience promoting substance use disorder, detoxification, residential treatment, mental health, or related behavioral healthcare programs.
The Business Development Representative will build and maintain referral relationships throughout the local market and surrounding communities, educate referral partners and prospective clients about services, and help drive qualified admissions. This is a performance-driven role with daily outreach goals, referral targets, and business development expectations.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain referral relationships with physicians, hospitals, EAPs, drug courts, behavioral health providers, recovery organizations, community partners, local businesses, and other referral sources.
- Generate qualified referrals and admissions through consistent outreach, networking, and relationship management.
- Support facility census growth by identifying new referral opportunities and expanding existing accounts.
- Present services, treatment programs, levels of care, and the admissions process accurately and professionally.
- Communicate the organization’s value proposition, treatment philosophy, and differentiators to referral partners, families, and prospective clients.
- Collect, document, and submit potential admission information to the Admissions Department for clinical review.
- Respond professionally to inquiries from individuals, families, and referral sources seeking treatment services.
- Coordinate and attend luncheons, networking events, presentations, and lunch-and-learns with referral sources.
- Conduct in-person and virtual outreach appointments with referral partners and prospective clients.
- Follow up consistently with referral sources to maintain engagement and identify future opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach, appointments, referrals, follow-up activity, and performance results.
- Prepare and submit reports, market feedback, and performance updates to leadership.
- Collaborate with Admissions, Clinical, Operations, and Marketing teams to improve referral conversion and outreach results.
- Represent the organization at community events, conferences, meetings, and industry-related functions.
- Maintain current knowledge of behavioral health treatment trends, referral development practices, and market activity.
- Provide general support to leadership as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- Direct experience in business development, referral development, admissions, outreach, or sales in behavioral health strongly preferred.
- Experience promoting substance use disorder treatment, detox, residential care, mental health, or addiction services strongly preferred.
- Proven success developing referral partnerships and generating admissions.
- Strong understanding of behavioral health referral sources and the treatment admissions process.
- Excellent communication, presentation, relationship-building, and follow-up skills.
- Strong sales, networking, prospecting, and account management abilities.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Gmail, social media platforms, and reporting systems.
- Clean driving record, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally.
- Flexibility to work occasional early mornings, evenings, or community events.
The ideal candidate is an established behavioral health business development professional who can demonstrate direct success building referral relationships, generating admissions, and increasing census within a treatment setting. Candidates with only general marketing or community relations experience will not be considered as strong of a fit unless they have direct behavioral health referral and admissions experience.
