Description

Lee County is seeking a responsible, detail-oriented, and motivated Technician II Environmental Lab Analyst to support environmental testing and water quality monitoring efforts throughout the community.

This role plays a critical part in protecting public health by analyzing water, soil, and environmental samples and ensuring laboratory results meet strict quality and certification standards.

You'll work in a laboratory setting using scientific instruments, maintaining accurate records, and supporting County programs related to drinking water, wastewater, and environmental protection.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, follows procedures carefully, and is committed to public service and environmental health.

Duties and Responsibilities

What You Will Do

* Analyze environmental samples, including:

* Drinking water

* Wastewater

* Groundwater

* Marine waters

* Soil and sediment

* Processed solid waste

* Perform chemical and bacteriological testing using laboratory instruments and equipment

* Collect, review, interpret, and record test results accurately

* Enter data and maintain clear, organized laboratory records

* Support laboratory certification requirements through routine testing and evaluations

* Follow quality assurance procedures, including:

* Recording temperatures, weights, and measurements

* Maintaining quality control and lab notebooks

* Prepare media and reagents used in laboratory testing

* Clean and maintain laboratory glassware, equipment, and work areas

* Assist with general laboratory maintenance to ensure a safe and organized workspace

Education, Experience, Licensing

What We're Looking For

You qualify for this position if you meet one of the following:

Minimum Qualifications

* High school diploma or GED (or equivalent), and

* Two (2) years of laboratory, environmental, or technical experience related to water, wastewater, or environmental testing

OR

Education-Based Qualification

* Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field

* Coursework or hands-on experience in laboratory testing, microbiology, chemistry, or environmental analysis

* Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Additional Requirement (Required for All Applicants)

* Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants with one or more of the following are strongly encouraged to apply:

* Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field (Chemistry preferred)

* At least 16 college semester credit hours in microbiology and biology

* Two (2) or more years of experience performing chemical and bacteriological analysis

* Experience preparing laboratory media and reagents

* Experience using specialized laboratory instruments and maintaining quality control records

* Experience working in a certified laboratory environment (drinking water or wastewater preferred)

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule

* Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.

- 5:00 p.m.

* Some weekends and holidays are required on a rotating schedule
