Utility Technician, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer
Lee County Utilities is seeking a responsible, detail-oriented, and skilled Trades worker – Wastewater Infrastructure to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of the County’s wastewater system.
This position plays a critical role in protecting public health and maintaining essential infrastructure by ensuring that sewer systems, force mains, pump stations, valves, and electrical control panels are functioning safely and efficiently.
This role is field-based and ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, operating equipment, troubleshooting system issues, and contributing to the reliability of critical community services.
What You Will Do:- Maintain, repair, and install wastewater system infrastructure, including:
- Gravity sewer piping and sewer force mains
- Manholes and sewer valves
- Pumps and pump stations
- Electrical control panels and instrumentation
- Troubleshoot electrical systems using multimeters, amp probes, and megohm meters.
- Set up and safely operate mobile and heavy equipment, including generators, vacuum trucks, pumper trucks, dump trucks, and various small tools.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctions at sewer pump stations.
- Perform general maintenance at pump station sites, including mowing, weed eating, painting, and landscaping.
- Read, interpret, and work from technical drawings, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and system inspections.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, supervisors, and the public.
- Follow all safety policies, work procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support wastewater operations and infrastructure reliability.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six (6) months of trades-related experience, including experience in:
- Wastewater or water system operations
- Plumbing, pipe fitting, or mechanical repair
- Electrical work or instrumentation
- Construction, excavation, or utility installation/maintenance
- Must possess a Florida Class A Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) with Tanker Endorsement prior to hire.
- Must obtain a Florida Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement within 90 days of hire.
- Lee County Utilities provides training, equipment, and covers all associated costs to help you obtain your CDL.
- This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as per DOT regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under minimal supervision.
- Ability to operate equipment and perform physically demanding tasks safely.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and under varying environmental conditions.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
On-Call: Required rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays
