Responsibilities
  • Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, incumbent performs complex level repairs and installations in a specific trade.
  • Assists and/or oversees maintenance of equipment and systems in assigned areas.
  • Performs skilled to highly skilled trades work in the area assigned.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks.
  • Performs skilled installation and repair/modification, site layout, troubleshooting, diagnostics within assigned trades.
  • Operates various manual and electrical tools in the performance of tasks.
  • Under the direction of the designated supervisor, designs and implements preventive maintenance programs to ensure compliance with sanitary and health codes.
  • Clean and repair equipment as needed.
  • Participates in on‑call duty.
  • May be required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks.
  • Requires regular and reliable attendance and physical presence at the workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Essential employees may be required to work during a declared emergency.
  • Non‑essential employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency.
Street Assignments
  • When assigned to Streets – Electrical:
    Assist in streetlight repair and installations; assist in other electrical repairs and installations as needed; responsible for recordkeeping and equipment maintenance; after successful completion of probationary period, must participate in on‑call duty.
  • When assigned to Streets/Asphalt:
    Construct, maintain and repair all right of ways, roads, sidewalks, curbs, culverts and catch basins; operate trucks and light equipment as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment required for assigned tasks.
  • Knowledgeable in occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) assigned.
  • Knowledgeable in City and State rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Knowledgeable in general housekeeping practices.
  • Knowledgeable in basic report and record maintenance principles and practices.
  • Skilled in the efficient and safe operation of trade‑specific tools and equipment.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and repair within assigned trade(s).
  • Skilled in prioritization, organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/or in response to emergencies.
  • Ability to operate vehicles and necessary equipment including hand tools.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in circumstances where limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to receive and understand oral and written directions.
  • Ability to recognize and address common safety issues in the field.
  • Ability to detect improper functioning mechanical systems.
  • Ability to effectively use devices such as computer or tablet.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED. Experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities can be substituted for the high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum three years of experience in related field.

Special Requirements
  • For all safety‑sensitive CDL positions:
    Department of Transportation mandatory drug/alcohol testing required.
  • When assigned to Streets – Electrical, Asphalt, Solid Waste, Water Distribution, Water Plant:
    Must possess a valid Florida Class “B” Florida Commercial Driver’s License, with airbrake endorsement and an acceptable driving record at time of hire, or if assigned to Streets. Electrical must be able to obtain within twelve (12) months from date of hire.
