Description
Lee County is looking for dependable and safety-focused team members to help maintain our bridges and roadway structures. In this role, you'll play a key part in keeping our community connected by ensuring bridges and related infrastructure are safe and in good condition.

Duties and Responsibilities What You'll Do- Maintain and repair Lee County's stationary bridges and two drawbridges.
- Install, repair, and maintain guardrails, handrails, fences, buffer walls, sea walls, and safety barriers.
- Perform drawbridge upkeep, including traffic gates, gears, bearings, and other mechanical parts. Grease and lubricate as needed.
- Inspect bridges for structural issues and fill expansion joints.
- Repair box culverts, sandblast, grind, and paint surfaces.
- Install or repair traffic attenuators.
- Operate and transport barges for waterline repairs using wide-load permits.
- Use hand tools and power tools (chainsaws, augers) and operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, cranes, loaders, excavators, and backhoes.
- Set up safe work zones following IMOT specifications.
- Perform welding on bridges and aluminum railings; assist other departments with welding projects.
- Complete concrete work, including building forms, pouring, and finishing flat surfaces.
- Assist with maintenance and repairs on Weir systems as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Two (2) years of experience in bridge maintenance or related work such as:
- Road or highway maintenance
- Construction or concrete work
- Heavy equipment operation
- Welding or fabrication
- Guardrail or fence installation
- Must possess a Florida Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes endorsement
- This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing in accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).
- Welding and fabricating experience
- Experience repairing bridges, guardrails, fences, and concrete
- Class A CDL with Air Brakes endorsement
- Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
- Must be flexible for emergencies.
