Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Valid Florida commercial driver’s license (CDL) or the ability to obtain:
    • Class B;
    • Passenger vehicle endorsement (P);
    • Air brakes endorsement;
    • Tank vehicle endorsement (N);
    • Hazardous materials endorsement (H).
  • Valid Florida Department of Education School Bus Safety Inspector Certificate or the ability to obtain.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification.
  • Two years of experience as a mechanic.

Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard equipment, materials, practices, computers, and applications.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements.
Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Proficiently follow vehicle manufacturer’s service manuals to conduct vehicle safety inspections and execute minor repairs.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow shop personnel to ensure prompt repairs of the District’s vehicles.
  • Conduct monthly inspections on all District vehicles as required and promptly prepare corresponding inspection reports.
  • Operate service vehicles and transport fuel to provide emergency roadside assistance to buses and other vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace, adhering to stringent safety protocols.
  • Register with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Maintain current driver and CDL licenses with all necessary endorsements.
  • Follow department directives and adhere to School Board policies as instructed.
  • Any job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Information

S05, $19.57, 8 hours, 255 days. Compensation may increase based upon relevant education and experience.
