Legal Assistant I

The Office of the State Attorney Nineteenth Judicial Circuit seeks to hire a legal secretary for an entry level clerical position that requires work performed under general or administrative supervision for a busy prosecution office.

This is complex and confidential legal administrator work.

An employee in this position is responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties in assisting an Assistant State Attorney with case preparation.

Duties involve the performance of administrative and clerical tasks related to criminal court proceedings; setting up and maintaining the attorneys' calendars; screening calls and mail; transcribing; scanning; providing information to the public; data input; and preparing appropriate legal documents and correspondence.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a standard high school or General Education Diploma (GED). Basic skills tests may be required.

Only candidates completing the State Attorney's Office - 19th Judicial Circuit office application will be considered.

Overview of the Office of the State Attorney:

Pursuant to Article V, Section 17, of the Constitution of the State of Florida, the State Attorney is charged with the duty of faithfully executing and enforcing the laws of the State of Florida.

The Florida State Constitution provides that there be an elected State Attorney in each of the twenty judicial circuits. The State Attorney is the prosecuting officer of all the circuit and county trial courts.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

* Prepares legal documents.

* Accompany ASA to court and assist as required.

* Coordinate meetings, depositions and/or court appearances including space, time, place and notify all participants.

* Assists victims and witnesses, as needed.

* Maintain calendars.

* Arrange travel itinerary and hotel accommodations and reimbursement forms.

* Research and prepare reports as necessary.

* Receive, scan, and distribute incoming mail.

* Receive and process law enforcement electronic media.

* Assist in the processing and maintenance of all electronic media including e-filings, evidence and media.
