Primary Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs and maintenance on heavy-duty and light-duty trucks to maximize safe and productive operations.
  • Review and complete repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and repair orders.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, brake systems, suspension, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, body components, and related vehicle systems.
  • Utilize vehicle computer diagnostic systems and electronic equipment to identify failure modes and perform accurate repairs.
  • Perform repairs in accordance with Factory Service Manuals and manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment safety inspections to ensure safe operation.
  • Communicate with managers and drivers regarding vehicle conditions, repair status, and preventive maintenance recommendations to reduce future repairs.
  • Complete repair orders and all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with Waste Pro and OSHA standards.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of ethics, professionalism, dependability, and accountability.

Qualifications

We're looking for technicians who enjoy troubleshooting mechanical issues, take pride in quality workmanship, and want to continue growing their careers.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Knowledge of suspension inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of brake system inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of electrical system inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic system inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment with the ability to interpret manufacturer service manuals and perform accurate repairs.
  • The ability to complete repairs within Suggested Repair Times (SRTs) and accurately estimate labor time and materials required.
  • The ability to provide assistance, guidance, and technical support to Assistant Technicians and Shop Helpers.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
  • A commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and dependable attendance.
  • CDL Class B license is preferred, or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of employment.

Special Considerations / Physical Work Requirements

  • Exposure to chemicals and residential waste.
  • Ability to walk, jog, twist, crouch, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Sufficient stamina to maintain a steady work pace throughout the day.
  • Ability to properly use all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by company policy.
  • Physically able to enter and exit the cab of a commercial motor vehicle between 50 and 100 times per day.
  • Physically able to lift 50 to 75 pounds from the floor to waist height without assistance.
