Student Transportation Attendant – Kansas School for the Deaf (KSD) Transportation
Position SummaryThe Student Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable transportation for students traveling to and from the Kansas School for the Deaf (KSD). The driver will operate a district vehicle, follow established routes and schedules, maintain student safety, and communicate effectively with district staff and families as needed. The Student Transportation Attendant provides supervision, support, and assistance to students during transportation, ensuring safety and monitoring behavior.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Safely transport students to and from KSD.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Follow all traffic laws, district transportation procedures, and safety regulations.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment during transportation.
- Communicate transportation concerns or student needs to appropriate district personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Complete required transportation logs, mileage reports, and other documentation.
- Attend required trainings and meetings.
- Accompany students during transportation to and from KSD.
- Monitor student behavior and ensure compliance with transportation expectations.
- Assist students with boarding, exiting, and riding safely in district vehicles.
- Support students with communication, behavioral, or other individual needs as directed.
- Maintain a safe and positive transportation environment.
- Communicate concerns, incidents, or student needs to district staff and families as appropriate.
- Participate in required trainings and meetings.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to safely operate district vehicles.
- Ability to work effectively with students and staff.
- Successful completion of required background checks and district employment requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages and needs.
Positions may be part-time and scheduled based upon student transportation needs and district programming requirements.
