Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program Director
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program Director at North West Arkansas Community College (NWACC) is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of the MLT program. The role includes curriculum development, faculty supervision, program accreditation, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, overseeing recruitment and retention of students, guiding clinical placement partnerships, and maintaining program effectiveness through ongoing evaluation and improvement.
EssentialDuties
- Develop, administrate, manage, and evaluate the MLT program curriculum, including identifying textbooks and other course materials.
- Oversee the MLT budget and recommend changes as appropriate to include student fees and expenditures.
- Develop and implement program changes and courses in response to community needs in conjunction with an advisory board.
- Provide leadership and vision for the creation and implementation of the MLT program, working to develop it into a nationally accredited program.
- Communicate with industry partners on a regular basis and develop and maintain agreements for student clinical rotations.
- Teach courses as full‑time faculty within NWACC teaching policies, receiving release hours for performance of administrative program‑director duties.
- Participate in college faculty and committee activities.
- Develop, implement, monitor and revise MLT program policies and procedures in collaboration with the Dean of Health Professions and Associate Vice President for Workforce Development.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the application process for students wishing to enter the MLT program.
- Work with advisors, faculty, and administration on updates to the MLT program and advise students as needed.
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop promotional materials and activities to promote the MLT program.
- Use interpersonal skills and make sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed among coworkers, faculty, staff, students, and industry partners.
- Support the mission, values, and institutional goals as defined by the college.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree.
- ASCP‑BOC certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
- Applicable equivalencies (work experience and/or educational achievements) may be considered.
- At least three years of teaching experience.
- Program Director experience in an MLT program.
- Ability to work effectively with employees and all levels of leadership within the institution.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio) and HRIS systems.
- Self‑starter who takes accountability for performance while requiring minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle highly confidential material efficiently and effectively.
- Strong time management, multi‑tasking, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build relationships with individuals and teams across the institution and campus.
- Ability to analyze information and recommend appropriate action.
- Knowledge of planning, research, and analysis techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of department, operations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to conduct research and perform quantitative quality assurance reviews.
- Ability to research, prepare, and present comprehensive written and oral reports.
- Ability to organize and conduct meetings and workshops.
- Knowledge of state and federal personnel laws, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to report clear, concise, and accurate ad‑hoc reports to all levels of leadership.
While performing the functions of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk or hear; regularly required to reach with hands and arms, taste or smell; occasionally required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and normal color vision.
