Summary ofJob Duties
Teach in one of the following subject areas as assigned:
English, Composition, Rhetoric, Writing, Communication, and/or Speech. This is a pool position. Applicants will be contacted as positions become available. The position reports to the department head/program director/dean who assigns responsibilities regarding student needs and course outcomes.
- Classroom and online instruction
- Assess and evaluate student learning
- Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates.
- Requires consistent on-time attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Instructors teaching in the classroom for both lower and/or upper-level courses leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree require a master’s degree in the discipline or related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the subject area. Courses leading to a master’s require a doctorate degree. Adjunct faculty with a clinical assignment must be prepared at the level required by accreditation.
Instructors in occupational and technical areas are generally required to have a minimum of an associate’s degree and related work experience. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
Prior teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Current knowledge of the relevant discipline.
- Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries.
- Ability to respond to needs of learners from a variety of educational backgrounds in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to deliver course outcomes and content through a variety of teaching/learning styles.
- Ability to use technology effectively in teaching.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues.
Work with a dynamic team of faculty, staff, and students in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. May possibly have contact with vendors, personnel from other agencies and institutions, and the general public.
Special Job DimensionsWork performed primarily in an office setting. The employee is required to enter data into a computer, sit for extended periods, occasionally stand and walk, and work with details of a computer screen. The employee occasionally lifts items up to 50 pounds. Routine work schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional overtime and travel required.
Background Check RequirementsCriminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) Check. May also include a drug screen, child maltreatment check, and proof of immunizations depending upon area of study.
