Position Overview
Adjunct Faculty position (Less than Annual Appointment (Fixed Term)) in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. The instructor will teach assigned courses in Mathematics and Statistics, typically in lower and upper‑level courses leading to associate or bachelor’s degrees.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime and travel required. Work is performed primarily in an office setting and may include digital data entry and use of technology in teaching.
Responsibilities- Deliver classroom and online instruction in assigned subject areas.
- Assess and evaluate student learning.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere, fostering teamwork and providing leadership to subordinates.
- Attend all scheduled classes consistently and on time.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education and/or Work Experience
- Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the subject area.
- Doctorate required for courses leading to a master’s degree.
- Adjunct faculty with a clinical assignment must have appropriate accreditation level.
- Other fields: an associate’s degree and related work experience may be required.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience
- Prior teaching experience.
- Current knowledge of the relevant discipline.
- Good organizational skills and timely response to student inquiries.
- Ability to respond to learners from a variety of educational backgrounds in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to deliver course outcomes and content using a variety of teaching/learning styles.
- Proficiency in using technology effectively in teaching.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues.
Work with a dynamic team of faculty, staff, and students in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment. May also interact with vendors, personnel from other agencies and institutions, and the general public.
Special Job DimensionsWork is primarily office-based. The employee regularly uses a computer, sits for extended periods, occasionally stands or walks, and may lift items up to 50 lbs. Vision demands: close, detailed vision for computer screen. Hearing and speaking are required.
Background Check RequirementsCriminal background check, Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) check, and possible drug screen, child maltreatment check, and proof of immunizations depending on area of study.
