Behavior Coordinator

Location: Fort Smith, AR 72904

Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year (based on experience)

We are seeking a Behavior Coordinator to join our award‑winning Special Education team. In this role, you will train, coach, and mentor staff in functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention plans, evidence‑based instruction, and crisis prevention intervention. You will also research and recommend evidence‑based curricula and systems, ensuring program excellence and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive training, guidance, and ongoing support for staff to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop effective Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Maintain high‑quality standards for academic instruction and behavioral intervention services for all students.
  • Coach staff on evidence‑based instructional practices aligned to each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Assess program‑wide development needs and deliver training that closes performance gaps.
  • Promote continuous learning through conferences, workshops, seminars, and training sessions.
  • Lead the training, certification, and coaching of staff in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) strategies.
  • Partner with the Program Director to support hiring, onboarding, orientation, and initial training of behavioral staff.
  • Research evidence‑based curricula and recommend adoption aligned with Department of Education requirements.
  • Optimize student, classroom, and program‑wide support systems by evaluating needs and implementing improvements.
  • Participate in required meetings: student progress reviews, parent‑teacher conferences, staff development, and other relevant forums.
  • Conduct routine quality assurance reviews at all levels, document results, and recommend actionable improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Education regulations and organizational standards.
  • Support additional duties as assigned by program leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education, behavioral health, or a closely related field.
  • Master’s degree or higher in applied behavior analysis, special education, or related field (preferred).
  • AR state teaching credential (currently held or in the process of obtaining).
  • Board‑certified behavior analyst (BCBA), registered behavior technician (RBT), or related credential (preferred).
  • Certification in crisis management training.
  • Experience providing behavioral support in alternative, special education, or behavioral health settings.
  • Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA), PBIS, FBA, and BIP.
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and related disabilities.
  • Familiarity with special education services, compliance, effective teaching strategies, classroom management, data‑based decision making, and IEPs.
  • Strong motivation and communication skills to support students toward realistic goals.
  • Experience with crisis management systems and intervention.
  • Ability to remain calm and make independent decisions in emergencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, and decision‑making skills.
  • Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
