Position Overview
Seeking a 1‑Year Visiting faculty member for the Department of Art and Graphic Design. Applicants will teach a generalist Graphic Design curriculum, including foundational courses for both Graphic Design and Studio Art majors. Preference for expertise in typography, branding, or publication design.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach lower‑level graphic design courses and optional upper‑level courses based on expertise.
- Assess and evaluate student learning.
- Facilitate diverse student learning needs and employ inclusive, inventive teaching practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere, communicate effectively, and provide leadership to subordinates.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Commit to inclusive teaching practices and understand their impact on pedagogy.
- Use historical and cultural context to enrich teaching and work.
- Maintain productive relationships with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
- Implement varied teaching methods across multiple instructional modalities.
- Ensure consistent on‑time attendance and fulfill all assigned duties.
- Extensive knowledge of Graphic Design.
- Excellent pedagogical knowledge and skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration.
- Experience with student learning assessment in the discipline and in general education.
- Proficient use of instructional technologies.
Required
- Terminal degree in Graphic Design or related field (preferred).
- Documented creative/professional practice in Design.
- Teaching experience at the college or university level.
- Terminal degree completed prior to hire date.
Preferred
- Broad area of expertise or interdisciplinary training.
- Ability to connect Graphic Design with Book Arts, Art History, or Studio Art.
- Membership in professional organizations.
Type of Position: Faculty – Non‑Tenure (Regular)
Location: University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, Fort Smith, Arkansas
Salary: $50,000 – $52,000, commensurate with education and experience
