Adjunct Faculty – Computer Engineering & Related Disciplines

Type of Position: Less than Annual Appointment (Fixed Term)

Institution: University of Arkansas at Fort Smith

Department: Smart Systems Engineering

Location: Fort Smith, Arkansas

Job Duties (Summary): Teach courses in one or more of the following areas:
Computer Integrated Machining, Electronics, Engineering, or Engineering Technology (Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Manufacturing), Network Engineering Technology, or Welding.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver classroom and online instruction.
  • Assess and evaluate student learning.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere, fostering teamwork and providing leadership to subordinates.
  • Attend regularly and on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Master’s degree in the discipline or related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the subject area for lower and/or upper‑level courses leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree, or an associate’s degree and related work experience for occupational and technical areas.
  • Preferred: Prior teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Current knowledge of the relevant discipline.
  • Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries.
  • Ability to serve learners from diverse educational backgrounds in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to deliver course outcomes and content through a variety of teaching/learning styles.
  • Effective use of technology in teaching.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues.

Physical Requirements: Mainly sitting; occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Routine schedule Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with occasional overtime and travel. Very limited physical activity is required.
