Job DescriptionThe Department of World Languages invites applications for a full‑time assistant professor in Spanish and Second Language Pedagogy. The successful candidate will teach all levels of undergraduate Spanish language and culture as well as undergraduate courses in second language acquisition, methodology and assessment. Teaching will be conducted both in person and online for a total of 24 credits per year (12 per semester).
The position reports to the Head of the World Languages Department.
- Teach all levels of undergraduate Spanish, both in person and online.
- Teach asynchronous online second‑language instruction (TESL/TESOL) courses.
- Develop an active scholarship and research agenda.
- Support students outside the classroom by serving as advisor to student organizations, supervising student research, leading international study experiences, or collaborating in other high‑impact experiences.
- Provide service to the department, college, and university.
- Serve on the Editorial Board of Azahares, the award‑winning departmental creative literary journal.
- Collaborate in recruitment activities.
- Participate in outreach to Latino/Hispanic communities in the area.
- Contribute to curriculum development in the department.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and/or
Work Experience:
- Ph.D. in Spanish Language, Second Language Pedagogy, TESOL, or a related field.
Preferred Education and/or
Work Experience:
- Experience working in higher education.
- Native or near‑native fluency in Spanish and English.
- Proven excellence in teaching.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work well with others.
Ability to drive off‑campus for community outreach events.
