Position Summary

The Department of Art and Design seeks a committed educator to serve a 1‑Year Visiting appointment in a generalist Graphic Design curriculum. Candidates should have knowledge of a diverse range of approaches in graphic design. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in Graphic Design, including Foundations courses for both Graphic Design and Studio Art majors. Candidates with emphasis in typography, branding, and publication design will be viewed favorably.

The position is responsible for 24 contract hours annually (a 3/2 teaching load) and reports to the Art Department Head.

Qualifications

Terminal degree in Graphic Design or related field preferred; notable equivalent experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related fields may be considered in extraordinary circumstances. Documented creative/professional practice in design and experience teaching at the college or university level are required. Qualifying terminal degrees must be complete prior to the date of hire.

  • Area of expertise is open; candidates with interests or training in more than one subject area are preferred.
  • Ability to draw curricular connections between Graphic Design and Book Arts, Art History, and/or Studio Art.
  • Membership in professional organizations related to the field of expertise is preferred.

Additional Information

Works with a dynamic team of diverse faculty, staff, and students in a collaborative and growth‑oriented environment. Frequent contact occurs with faculty and staff from other colleges and university entities, outside organizations, and the general public.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $50,000–$52,000 commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include university contributions to health, dental, life, and disability insurance; tuition waivers for employees and families; 12 official holidays; immediate leave accrual; and a range of retirement programs with university contributions between 5 % and 10 % of salary.
