Summary of

Job Duties:

Upward Bound Tutors will conduct grouptutoring sessions to high school participants of the Upward Bound Programs in core academic subjects. Various subject areas will beneeded to meet the needs to the participants in the program. The position reports to the Upward Bound Academic Specialist.

Required Education and/or

Work Experience:

Minimum qualifications include completed course work in the subject areawith 3.0 or higher average grade point; sophomore or higherstanding at a post-secondary institution; and well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Education and/or

Work Experience:

Professionalhigh school teaching and/or tutoring experience preferred.

• Provide tutoring to Upward Bound students to assist withcomprehension of course work, and work with program staff to improve student retention and success.
• Promote effective academic readiness and good study habits.
• Maintain attendance data and provide tutoring evaluations ofstudent learning to ensure positive academic progress is achieved.
• Enhance learning concepts and strategies; test preparation; andassist with skill building as needed.
• Subject areas needed:
  English composition and literature;history; social sciences: all areas;
