Operations Manager, Program / Project Manager
Position Summary
The Director of Engineering will manage and lead all engineering, maintenance, repair, capital projects, and technological activities for the Fort Smith site. Responsibilities include managing equipment reliability and replacement, budgetary performance, customer service, personnel, special projects, and short/long-term strategic planning. The role focuses on developing plant reliability goals, overall maintenance strategy, and capital plans.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Establish equipment reliability targets, monitor performance, and determine root cause fixes.
- Oversee maintenance, engineering, and capital budgets and optimize resource spending.
- Set high performance expectations and hold teams accountable for results.
- Develop long-term strategic plans to drive maintenance performance to world‑class standards.
- Negotiate large or strategically important supplier and vendor contracts.
- Build a highly competent maintenance and engineering team through coaching and training.
- Plan, organize, and manage capital projects, delivering results first‑time, on‑time, and on‑budget.
- Chair organizational sub‑contracting meetings.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure overall business success.
- Develop business strategy for the Maintenance & Engineering Department.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing tools.
- Ensure all ISO 18001, 9001, 2200, 14001 programs are delivered on time and corrective actions are taken.
- Maintain maintenance KPIs and drive improvements based on variance against long‑term plans.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in an engineering leadership role with a strong track record in leading change in a unionized environment.
- Experience implementing and maintaining best‑practice preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Project management experience and ability to deliver transformational change.
- Thorough understanding of lean manufacturing techniques.
- Knowledge of OHSA.
- Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Project), JD Edwards, and Kronos Payroll.
- Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. - Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
