Job Summary
As an Application Engineering Co‑Op, you will assist engineers in developing custom motor solutions that solve customer system issues for general industry applications. Your responsibilities include performing motor tests, preparing motors, test fixtures, and various test equipment, collecting data and summarizing results in reports using graphical analysis, troubleshooting motor issues, assembling, disassembling, and/or modifying motors for experimentation, using electronic and mechanical lab tools to describe motor performance and features, preparing and shipping motor samples to customers, and working 20 to 30 hours weekly to support applications engineering, development, manufacturing, and purchasing teams.
You will also identify and develop motor designs for customer-specific general industry systems, use calipers, a CMM, or a surface table to measure parts, write engineering change notices, run a dynamometer to test electric motors, assist with samples, customer approvals, manufacturing issues and UL approvals, and estimate and track time required for customer and internal support.
- Assist engineers in performing motor tests
- Prepare motors, test fixtures, and various test equipment
- Collect data and summarize in a report using graphical analysis of the test data
- Assist engineers in troubleshooting motor issues
- Assemble, disassemble, and/or modify motors related to experimentation to determine improvements
- Use electronic and mechanical lab tools for various measurements to describe motor performance and features
- Prepare and ship motor samples to customers
- Ability to work 20 to 30 hours weekly
- Work directly with applications engineering to solve application issues—also works with development, manufacturing and purchasing
- Assist applications engineering team in identifying and developing motor designs for customer's specific general industry systems
- Use calipers, a CMM, or a surface table to measure parts
- Write engineering change notices
- Run a dynamometer to test electric motors
- Assist with samples, customer approvals, manufacturing issues and UL approvals
- Estimate and track time required to perform customer and internal support
- Planned B.S. degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with electronics and the ability to use an oscilloscope are a plus
- Strong technical knowledge and hands on skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Results oriented, self-motivated - high achiever
- Strong analytical ability and strategic/critical thinker
- Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize projects efficiently
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
