Position: SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR (Title 5) with Security Clearance
Duties 1. As the Assistant Chief of Technical Services, participates in the administration and planning of a comprehensive fire prevention program at the installation. Manages the Hazard Assessment Inspection Program, Public Fire Prevention and Education Program, Fire Protection Engineering, and Extinguisher Maintenance Program. Responsible for implementing internal controls, self-inspection, and audit compliance. Ensures education in and compliance with security directives for employees having access to classified/computer information.

Coordinates with the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, and other supervisors in the development and implementation of policies. Prepares, executes, and schedules assignments of subordinate personnel to inspection and training duties to ensure the installation meets the training requirements provided by the Department of the Air Force. Maintains current knowledge of the base, its structures, and all systems related to fire protection and prevention.

Prepares facilities inspection and testing inspection schedules for all buildings, facilities, fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and other extinguishing systems that are tested by fire prevention and suppression personnel. Directs follow-up inspections for all systems that have been out of order or repaired. Prepares contract specifications and supporting documentation for those fire extinguishers or systems that are to be contracted.

Develops recommendations for the Fire Chief on the level and mixture of resources needed to ensure an effective and efficient program. Inspects maintenance of all suppression and detection systems on the installation. Identifies and reviews status of base fire deficiencies on a regular and recurring basis and effects necessary corrective action within program concepts.
2. Plans, administers, and supervises the fire prevention education program. Coordinates public relations activities and uses the news media to promote fire safety. Directs or provides demonstrations and lectures to groups or organizations. Develops base fire regulations, training programs, and fire hazard assessment schedules. Coordinates with fire protection operations personnel to develop new pre-fire plans, and review and update existing plans.

Regularly practices and enforces a sound safety management program. Coordinates fire prevention education activities with the Public Affairs Office in the promotion of events throughout the base populace. Drafts articles for the base paper, commander's column, etc. for submission to the Fire Chief and/or higher authority for approval. Assigns personnel to brief base personnel at all newcomers' briefings, commander's calls, and any other briefing required.

Directs development and implementation of training of the base populace on Air Force and nation-wide fire prevention practices, as well as home-base unique fire hazards.
3. Reviews construction and modification plans, confers with engineers, and provides technical/functional assistance on fire prevention and building design criteria. Uses building codes and various manuals and specifications, prepares reports, conducts fire investigations, evaluates hazardous conditions, and provides recommendations to correct hazardous conditions. Coordinates on work requests and provides input in the planning and development of all major construction or renovation projects.

Applies a practical knowledge of codes, standards, blueprint reading, and engineering principles as applicable to life safety and fire prevention. Attends pre-construction conferences to brief contractors on their fire protection/prevention responsibilities while working on base. Inspects structures during construction or renovation to ensure adherence to the terms of the contract in so far as fire safety aspects are concerned prior to acceptance by the Air Force.

* Employee must meet medical standards IAW OPM GS-0081 Series and DoD Manual 6055.5.
