Job Summary:

The Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is responsible for translating patient diagnoses, medical services, and procedures into standardized alphanumeric codes to support healthcare billing, compliance, and record-keeping. This role ensures accuracy in coding, assists with claims processing, maintains regulatory compliance, and communicates effectively with healthcare providers to clarify documentation. The CPC plays a vital role in optimizing reimbursement and preventing billing errors.

Responsibilities:
  • Review medical documentation including physician notes, operative reports, and patient charts for coding accuracy.
  • Assign standardized codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II code sets.
  • Support medical billing by processing and verifying claims to ensure proper reimbursement.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare laws, payer guidelines, and privacy standards such as HIPAA.
  • Participate in internal chart audits to maintain coding quality and accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve claim denials by correcting coding errors and communicating with providers or billing teams.
  • Query physicians and healthcare staff to clarify incomplete or ambiguous documentation.
  • Stay current with annual code set updates and regulatory changes through ongoing education.
Required Skills &

Certifications:
  • Valid Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from AAPC.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Attention to detail to ensure coding accuracy and prevent billing errors.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and coding encoder software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills &

Certifications:
  • Experience with healthcare billing processes and insurance claim adjudication.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and payer-specific coding guidelines.
  • Previous experience in a clinical or medical coding environment.
Special Considerations:
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA privacy standards.
  • Work requires high concentration and accuracy in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Scheduling:
  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Position duration approximately 8 weeks.
