Responsibilities
The Charge Nurse manages the operations of the department. They are the leader who provides support, mentorship, and guidance to those who provide direct patient care. The Charge Nurse coordinates the delivery of patient care by determining staffing needs and making patient assignments, ensuring all patients receive timely, safe, effective, and high‑quality care. They work closely with bedside nurses to coordinate care plans, set professional conduct expectations, and serve as a resource for the unit.
The Charge Nurse holds direct and indirect care providers accountable for their professional responsibilities and adherence to regulatory guidelines, while performing duties consistent with Mercy’s Mission, Values and Service Standards.
- Sign‑On Bonus: $10,000 for full‑time RNs with at least 1 year of experience.
- Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, Diploma, or BSN). - Licensure:
Current RN license in the hiring state or eligible for the RN compact. - Certifications:
BLS (AHA) required within 30 days of hire; additional certifications may be required based on unit, including ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, ENPC, OCN, CPHON, PEARS, S.T.A.B.L.E., C‑EFM or other unit‑specific credentials.
